Border security and civil protection measures in Moldova and Romania

Border authorities in Romania reported that approximately 83,100 people and over 15,300 transport vehicles crossed the country's external borders, including those with Serbia, Moldova, and Ukraine, within a 24-hour period. On the entry side, 40,903 individuals and 7,896 vehicles were processed. Since February 2022, a total of 1,615,261 Ukrainian citizens have entered Romania.

In Moldova, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced plans to equip all border crossing points with civil protection shelters for employees and citizens. This initiative aims to mitigate risks posed by Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure near the border, which threaten logistical chains and the safety of border workers. Authorities are currently inventorying and repairing existing shelters and constructing new ones, ranging from sophisticated to improvised structures, despite limited budgetary resources.
