Borderlands 4 sees player surge following new DLC and character release

Gearbox Software and 2K have released the version 1.10 update for Borderlands 4, introducing significant new content including Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort and a new playable Vault Hunter, Loveless the Hacker. The expansion takes players to the tropical island of Providence to assist the character FL4K in rescuing a companion from the Tediore Corporation.

Loveless the Hacker, an ex-Anshin hacker turned assassin, features a unique combat style utilizing biological and digital abilities, including a digital virus companion known as a Wyrm. The update also includes Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Vile Shadows and raises the level cap by 10.

The content release has triggered a major resurgence in player engagement. Following a period of declining numbers, Borderlands 4 saw its concurrent player count on Steam quadruple, reaching peaks of over 26,000 users. This surge is attributed to the popularity of the new character, a 50% discount during an anniversary sale, and a free-to-play weekend available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.
