Bordon Library celebrates 40th anniversary

Bordon Library recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a community event held at the Forest Centre. The facility, which opened in 1986, was originally built for £350,000 to replace a mobile library service.

Designed with a basilica-style architecture featuring high ceilings and interior arches, the award-winning building was noted for its modern amenities at the time of opening, including a computerized book issue system and an experimental indexing method.

Hampshire County Council chairman Maurice Jones attended the celebration, marking the library's continued importance as a community hub for various activities and programs despite changes to its operating hours over the decades.
