Borger Breeveld, Surinamese film icon, dies at 82
Surinamese actor, filmmaker, and media professional Borger Breeveld has passed away in the Netherlands at the age of 82. He was widely recognized as a prominent figure in the Surinamese film and television industry.
Breeveld is best known for his lead role as Roy Ferrol in the 1976 classic film ‘Wan Pipel’, directed by Pim de la Parra. The film, released shortly after Suriname’s independence, explored themes of identity and social relations.
Beyond acting, Breeveld held significant roles at the Surinaamse Televisie Stichting (STVS), serving as a program maker and vice-chairman of its supervisory board. He was also a co-founder of the Film Instituut Paramaribo and was involved with the Surinamese Film Academy, contributing to the development of the nation's film sector.
