Borgerhout Mayor closes eatery following targeted vandalism

The Mayor of Borgerhout, Els van Doesburg, has ordered a one-month administrative closure of an eatery on Kroonstraat to ensure public safety. The decision follows a serious incident on the night of September 9-10, during which all nine windows of the establishment were smashed.

Police investigations suggest the destruction was a targeted act of intimidation likely linked to conflicts within the drug environment rather than random vandalism. Due to the risk of further violence affecting residents, customers, and staff, the establishment will be closed and sealed from October 12 through November 11. During this period, all meal preparation, sales, takeaway, and delivery services are prohibited. The police will re-evaluate the threat level before the closure period ends, and the mayor may extend the closure if safety risks persist.
