Borgia officially granted honorary title of City
The municipality of Borgia has officially been granted the honorary title of “City” by a decree from the President of the Republic. The formal ceremony took place at the Prefecture of Catanzaro, attended by Undersecretary of the Interior Wanda Ferro, Prefect Clemente Di Nuzzo, and Borgia Mayor Elisabeth Sacco.
The recognition follows a proposal by the Minister of the Interior and is based on the territory's extraordinary historical and archaeological significance. Borgia is home to the ancient sites of Skylletion and the Roman colony of Scolacium, which are preserved at the National Archaeological Museum and Park of Scolacium. Additionally, the decree acknowledges the town's unique urban history, specifically its rational reconstruction following the earthquake of 1783.
