Pedemontana Piemontese construction causes deforestation
Construction of the Pedemontana Piemontese is causing significant environmental changes between Masserano and Ghemme. Recent photography has highlighted extensive deforestation and cleared corridors through the vegetation, particularly within the Baraggia area, which is characterized by woods and natural meadows.
The project, which involves an investment of approximately 384.5 million euros, aims to connect Masserano with the A26 motorway at Ghemme via a 15-kilometer route. The infrastructure is intended to improve connections for the lower Valsesia and Biellese regions, reduce existing traffic, and support local production activities.
The visible impact on the landscape has sparked debate. While supporters emphasize the long-term benefits of reduced travel times and improved logistics, critics point to the environmental cost and the issue of land consumption caused by the modification of natural habitats.
