BorgWarner announces collective layoffs for 96 employees in Italy

BorgWarner has announced a collective redundancy procedure affecting 96 employees at its Italian sites. The layoffs impact 81 workers at the Orsenigo technical center in the province of Como and 15 workers at the Elmas plant in the province of Cagliari.

In response to the announcement, the Fiom Cgil union has called for an eight-hour strike on September 23 to protest the decision. Union representatives have criticized the company, alleging that the financial crisis is a pretext for relocating production to other European centers, specifically mentioning Poland. Salvatore Medici of Fiom Cgil Como stated that the company is “downloading the responsibility of bad corporate management and the desire to pursue profit” onto the affected families.

The union is demanding the revocation of the layoff procedure and is calling for government and regional intervention to protect local employment and industrial stability.
