Boris Eifman Ballet to perform ‘Eugene Onegin’ in Vietnam
The Boris Eifman Ballet from St. Petersburg is bringing its modern production of ‘Eugene Onegin’ to Vietnam this October. The performance schedule includes four shows at the Hoa Binh Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City from October 21 to 24, followed by four shows at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi from October 28 to 31.
Directed by Boris Eifman, this production offers a contemporary reimagining of Alexander Pushkin’s classic poem. Rather than a traditional 19th-century setting, the ballet utilizes a modern backdrop of post-1991 Russia, incorporating elements like helicopter searchlights and contemporary social conflicts. The production is noted for its unconventional musical score, which blends the classical melodies of Pyotr Tchaikovsky with the rock compositions of Alexander Sitkovetsky.
Tickets for the event range from 500,000 to 20 million VND. Despite the premium pricing for central seating, organizers report high demand from audiences in Vietnam’s two largest cities.
