Boris Johnson condemns Trump’s reported Russian diesel deal
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has condemned a reported agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin regarding Russian diesel, describing the deal as ‘sickening’ and ‘outrageous.’ The agreement, which involves the purchase of nearly two million tonnes of Russian diesel to lower fuel prices in the United States, coincides with Trump’s claim that Russia and Ukraine have reached an ‘energy ceasefire.’
Under this proposed arrangement, both Russia and Ukraine would cease attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure. Johnson criticized the double standards of the deal, questioning why Putin should be permitted to destroy Ukrainian energy infrastructure while Ukrainians are forbidden from responding. He argued that the deal would effectively force American drivers to ‘bankroll Vladimir Putin’s slaughter.’
Johnson further suggested that if Russian fuel vessels attempt to transit through the English Channel, the Royal Navy should intercept them. He maintained that appeasing Putin would not successfully lower fuel prices and emphasized the need to support Ukrainians facing ongoing bombardment.
