Boris Piližota leaves SDP following domestic violence indictment

Boris Piližota, a member of the Croatian Parliament representing Osijek, has left the Social Democratic Party (SDP). His departure follows an indictment filed against him regarding allegations of domestic violence and the violation of a child's rights.

Piližota stated that his decision to leave the party was a personal choice intended to avoid damaging the SDP's reputation. He announced that he will continue to support the policies he previously advocated for within the Parliament.

The Croatian Parliament voted on July 15 to strip Piližota of his parliamentary immunity at the request of the State Attorney's Office in Osijek. Piližota noted that he personally voted in favor of removing his own immunity to expedite the legal process.

He categorically denies all allegations, claiming they were filed by a former partner following their separation in 2024. Piližota expressed his intention to defend himself in court to prove the claims are untrue, while emphasizing the need to protect the privacy and interests of the minor child involved.
