Boris Trbić emphasizes history's role in preventing discrimination

Culturologist and dramaturg Boris Trbić has stated that understanding history is essential to preventing racist, discriminatory, and ignorant attitudes toward the world. He noted that a lack of historical knowledge contributes to confusion regarding global events.

Trbić, who teaches film history and screenwriting at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, emphasized that all cultures are hybrid and relational. He cited the evolution of coffee culture in Belgrade as an example of cultural exchange.

Regarding social issues, Trbić discussed his work with indigenous communities and his friendship with the late Australian indigenous rights activist Sreten Božić. He also addressed modern social trends, noting that while there are positive aspects to 'woke' culture, he criticized forced representation in media. He argued that some content on platforms like Netflix feels problematic because it prioritizes political correctness in an inorganic way rather than demonstrating a genuine interest in the communities being represented.
