Borjana Krišto warns of severe impacts from delayed 2026 Bosnia‑Herzegovina budget

Council of Ministers chair Borjana Krišto said the failure to forward the 2026 budget proposal for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s state institutions and international obligations to the Parliamentary Assembly has created "huge" consequences for the functioning of institutions, the execution of capital projects and the rights of public‑sector employees. The Council approved the draft on 21 May and sent it to the Presidency, which has not transmitted it to Parliament for almost two months and has offered no official explanation.

Krišto urged the Presidency to act without delay, noting that salary increases and allowances for civil servants cannot be paid and that significant infrastructure funds remain idle. The Council approved 500 000 KM for the city of Mostar to address fire damage at the Borak waste site and reallocated 2.5 million KM from a previously earmarked bridge project to fund the construction of a bridge over the Tara River to Montenegro.

She also highlighted the lack of a permanent law governing financing for seven culturally significant state institutions, saying temporary transfers are insufficient and that a legislative consensus is needed. Krišto mentioned other pending issues such as the South Gas Interconnector and criticised the continued involvement of the Office of the High Representative and foreign judges in the constitutional court.
