Borno military post attacked by suspected terrorists
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a major attack on a military post in the Mairari community, located in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. The assault began around midnight on Tuesday and involved a prolonged gun battle that lasted for more than two hours.
Guzamala Local Government Area Chairman, Umar Sheriff, confirmed that the attackers specifically targeted the military installation. He stated that the military was able to repel the insurgents and emphasized that no civilians were killed during the incident. Sheriff described the scale of the attack as unusually significant for the area.
While official casualty figures from the military have not been released, local sources reported fears of losses on both sides. Unverified rumors suggest that as many as seven soldiers may have been killed. The situation in the community has since returned to calm, and local officials plan to visit the site to assess the aftermath.
