Borno State and NNPC partner on solar plant and oil exploration
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) have agreed to collaborate on several energy projects aimed at boosting the state's economy. A key component of this partnership is the implementation of a proposed solar power plant, for which the state government has already approved 145 hectares of land.
Additionally, NNPCL has committed to resuming oil exploration activities in the Borno Basin. Governor Zulum highlighted the strategic importance of these hydrocarbon resources for attracting investment and creating economic opportunities.
During the discussions, the Governor also addressed delays regarding the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant. He noted that despite materials being available at the site for approximately two years, the upgrade remains incomplete. NNPCL leadership pledged to intervene and address the obstacles hindering the completion of this critical electricity infrastructure.
