Bornova caves linked to Homer in new book release

Historian and author Altan Altın has released a new book titled ‘Destanların Doğduğu Yer: Bornova Homeros Mağaraları’ (The Place Where Epics Were Born: Bornova Homer Caves). The work presents evidence suggesting that the ancient poet Homer shaped his epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey, within the Bornova region.

Bornova Municipality hosted a book launch and signing event at the Atatürk Library to introduce the work, which was published by İzmir-based Ala Yayıncılık. During the event, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of preserving local historical identity, stating that the book serves as a strategic step in passing the region's cultural heritage to future generations and could increase interest in local tourism and academia.
