Bornova Municipality adopts four international cooperation initiatives

The Bornova Municipality in Izmir has approved four major international initiatives aimed at expanding its global cooperation and project capacity. These steps include participation in European Union programs, United Nations initiatives, and global peace networks.

One key initiative is the REWEAVE Project, funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe program. Coordinated by the Spanish Research Center for Energy Resources and Consumption (CIRCE), the project involves Bornova Municipality, Belkahve A.Ş., and Sun Tekstil A.Ş. as Turkish partners. The project aims to establish an innovative, circular, and socially inclusive textile system by focusing on the collection, sorting, and repair of textile waste across four pilot regions.

Additionally, the municipality has moved to join the Mayors for Peace network, an organization founded in Hiroshima that works toward nuclear disarmament, poverty reduction, and the promotion of a culture of peace. The municipality is also engaging with European Cultural Heritage Awards and United Nations-supported programs focused on the employment rights of individuals with disabilities.
