Bornova Municipality launches crackdown on illegal waste dumping

Bornova Municipality has launched a major mobilization to combat illegal debris and waste dumping in the Işıkkent region. To address the environmental threat, Mayor Ömer Eşki announced that all municipal trucks, including those typically assigned to road, park, and cleaning services, will be redirected to debris collection for the next three days.

In addition to the cleanup, the municipality is increasing inspections through 24/7 night shifts by municipal police. A camera surveillance system is also being implemented to catch violators in the act. The Mayor noted that the area, particularly near the Işıkkent Shoemakers Site, has long been a target for illegal dumping of industrial waste, including footwear and plastics, from other districts.
