Boroo to acquire Eagle Gold mine in Yukon for $140 million
Singapore-based mining firm Boroo Pte. Ltd. has reached an agreement to acquire the Eagle Gold mine in Yukon, Canada, from its court-appointed receiver, PwC. The deal, valued at 140 million Canadian dollars (approximately US$100 million), is subject to court approval.
The acquisition follows a major environmental disaster in June 2024, when a heap leach facility failure at the site, then operated by Victoria Gold Corp., caused a massive landslide and released millions of liters of cyanide-contaminated water into the environment. The incident forced the mine into receivership.
Under the terms of the agreement, Boroo will pay the purchase price in installments tied to specific milestones, including obtaining permits to restart operations and achieving commercial gold production. Upon completion of the sale, Boroo will assume full responsibility for both ongoing mining operations and the remediation of the site. The Yukon government expects to recover funds previously advanced for emergency cleanup efforts through the transaction.
