Borouge International opens 100 million euro plant in Schwechat

Borouge International has officially commenced commercial operations at a new compounding plant in Schwechat, Austria. The project represents an investment of over 100 million euros aimed at expanding and modernizing the site.

The facility specializes in producing customized polypropylene (PP) compounds by mixing polypropylen granules with recycled polypropylene, fillers, and additives. These materials are designed for diverse applications, including the automotive industry, household and electrical appliances, and technical infrastructure, such as protective coatings for steel pipes used in oil and gas transport.

By incorporating recycled content, the plant aims to meet increasing regulatory demands in Europe, particularly within the automotive sector where lightweight materials are essential for battery-electric vehicles. Borouge International, a company formed through the merger of Borealis, Borouge, and Nova Chemicals, is a major global producer of polyolefin plastics. The company is owned equally by OMV and ADNOC.
