Borr Drilling reports significant second-quarter profit decline

Borr Drilling reported a significant decline in its second-quarter financial results, characterized by a sharp drop in operating profit and a substantial pre-tax loss. The company's operating profit fell to $0.3 million, down from $96.5 million in the same period last year. Pre-tax results reached a loss of $230.5 million, compared to a loss of $56.4 million in the previous year's second quarter.

Revenue for the quarter was $232.2 million, missing analyst expectations of $246 million. The decline in earnings was attributed to lower revenues and increased operating costs, alongside a significant rise in financial expenses.

Market sentiment appears cautious, with short selling of Borr Drilling shares doubling since winter to 28.5 million shares, representing 12.2 percent of the free float. Analysts from DNB Carnegie have lowered their price target for the stock to $3.5 per share, citing pressure on the company's earning capacity over the next 18 months and a weak rig market.
