Borrenes leads traditional offering to Virgen de la Encina
On September 8, during the Día del Bierzo, the municipality of Borrenes led the traditional offering to the Virgen de la Encina. The procession, headed by Mayor Eduardo Prada, included offerings such as honey, olive oil, and local pears from Orellán, as well as a copy of the book ‘Léxico y literatura de la tradición oral en la comarca de Las Médulas’.
During the ceremony, Mayor Prada presented four specific pleas to the patron saint. He requested better healthcare, economic support, and social attention for the elderly; addressed the declining birth rate; highlighted the challenges faced by young people regarding employment and housing; and called for global peace amidst ongoing conflicts. Prada noted that he intentionally avoided specific political claims, stating that the patron saint is not intended for such purposes.
