Borås school leaders call for budget stability amid upcoming reforms
School leaders in Borås are calling for budget clarity and stability to prepare for upcoming educational reforms. The group, Sveriges skolledare, emphasizes the need for adequate resources ahead of significant changes expected by 2028, including a ten-year compulsory school system, a new curriculum, and a new grading system.
A forthcoming reform scheduled for the autumn term of 2027 aims to adjust teachers' instructional time to reduce workloads and improve teaching quality. School leaders note that this reform will necessitate hiring more staff, potentially increasing the number of teachers by 15–20 percent in compulsory schools and approximately 20 percent in upper secondary schools. Consequently, they are urging the new municipal leadership to ensure that the 2027 budget accounts for these increased personnel costs to maintain educational quality.
