Wall Street and Borsa İstanbul react to rising yields and oil

Global financial markets experienced significant volatility as investors reacted to rising US Treasury yields and geopolitical developments. In the United States, Wall Street indices closed lower, with the Dow Jones falling over 300 points, the S&P 500 dropping 0.75 percent, and the Nasdaq declining 1.13 percent. This downturn was driven by a surge in US Treasury yields, with the 10-year note hitting 5.135 percent, its highest level since July 2007, amid concerns regarding Federal Reserve interest rate policies and strong economic data.

Geopolitical tensions also played a major role. While diplomatic contacts between US officials and an Iranian delegation in New York were described by Donald Trump as “very good,” Brent crude oil prices rose back above 100 dollars per barrel due to ongoing Middle East uncertainty.

In Turkey, Borsa İstanbul showed a different trend, with the BIST 100 index closing up 0.40 percent at 13,251.85 points. The BIST 30 index also saw gains, rising 0.94 percent. However, sector performance was mixed, as the financial leasing and factoring index saw a sharp decline of over 8 percent.
