Borsa Istanbul Introduces Uptick Rule After 2% Drop, Index Recovers

The Istanbul Stock Exchange (Borsa Istanbul) activated an "uptick rule" for short‑selling transactions after the BIST100 index fell more than 2% at 14:32:51. The rule requires that short sales be executed at a price higher than the last trade, aiming to curb further price declines and maintain market stability during periods of stress.

Following the regulatory step, the BIST100 index reversed its earlier losses, moving into positive territory. After two consecutive days of nearly a 2% decline, the index rose about 1% during Thursday’s session, reaching 14,203.66 points, with total traded volume of 64.5 billion lira. Banking stocks gained 0.21%, textile‑leather led sector gains with a 1.73% rise, while financial leasing fell 9.24%.

The measures and market rebound reflect efforts by Turkish regulators and investors to stabilize the domestic equity market amid global macro‑economic and geopolitical pressures.
