Borussia Dortmund nears contract extension for Niko Kovac
Borussia Dortmund is nearing a contract extension for head coach Niko Kovac. Reports indicate that an oral agreement has been reached to extend his current deal, which was set to run until 2027, through to 2029. The club also intends to renew the contracts of his coaching staff, including Karsten Kramer, Lars Ricken, and Thomas Tres.
Kovac, who took over the team in January 2025 following the departure of Nuri Sahin, has led the club to a strong start in the Bundesliga, including four consecutive victories. The club management has expressed satisfaction with the team's development and the integration of summer signings.
In player news, Nico Schlotterbeck has left the German national team due to an injury and will miss the remainder of the international window. His availability for Dortmund's upcoming match against Werder Bremen on October 9 remains uncertain.
