Borussia Dortmund’s Mathis Albert praised by coach Kovac after test match

Seventeen‑year‑old forward Mathis Albert scored the opening goal for Borussia Dortmund in a 1‑2 test‑match loss to Fortuna Düsseldorf. Coach Niko Kovac lauded Albert’s speed, aerial ability and technical skill, saying he sees the youngster’s qualities and believes he can gradually earn a place in the first‑team squad.

Kovac noted that many national‑team players were still on holiday after the World Cup and that the young side showed signs of fatigue, but Albert’s performance stood out. The coach confirmed that Albert remains in the squad for Dortmund’s upcoming Asian tour to Japan, where he will have further chances to develop alongside the senior squad.
