Bose acquires Skullcandy to expand consumer audio reach

Bose Corporation has announced the acquisition of lifestyle audio brand Skullcandy from a fund managed by Mill Road Capital Management LLC. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition marks a strategic move to expand Bose's presence among younger demographics and specific lifestyle communities, including gaming, fitness, and boardsports.

Skullcandy will continue to operate as a standalone brand within Bose’s Premium Consumer Audio division and will maintain its headquarters in Park City, Utah. The deal builds upon a multi-year partnership where Skullcandy utilized “Sound by Bose” technology in several products, such as the Method 360 ANC earbuds and Crusher 1080 ANC headphones.

Bose CEO Lila Snyder stated that as a privately held company, Bose has the freedom to make “bold, long-term investments,” noting that Skullcandy is a thriving brand that offers opportunities to reach new consumers. Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow described the acquisition as a “win for Skullcandy and our fans,” noting that the partnership will provide greater access to Bose’s audio expertise and global distribution networks.
