Bose expands open-ear headphone lineup
Bose has announced two new models in its open-ear headphone lineup: the Sport Open Earbuds and the second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds. These devices utilize OpenAudio technology to direct sound near the ears without fully blocking the ear canal, allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings, such as traffic or conversations.
Because they do not seal the ear canal, neither model features active noise cancellation. Instead, Bose uses digital signal processing to maintain bass and clarity while minimizing sound leakage. The devices also include SpeechClarity, an AI-assisted voice isolation technology designed to separate user voices from ambient noise during calls.
The Sport Open Earbuds are designed for athletic activities, featuring a C-shaped design with soft silicone, textured physical buttons for ease of use with sweaty hands, and an IP54 rating for sweat and dust resistance. They offer seven hours of battery life, with an additional 22 hours provided by the charging case. The Ultra Open Earbuds (gen 2) utilize a ring-shaped design intended for premium daily listening.
