Balkan region reports diverse economic and energy shifts
The Balkan region is experiencing diverse economic shifts. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, public revenues in the Federation reached 6.61 billion KM through September 2026, despite challenges such as low average net salaries and rising costs for staples like bread and fuel. The tourism sector shows mixed results, with a slight increase in total visitors to BiH, though Sarajevo saw a minor decline in arrivals. Meanwhile, Montenegro is entering a new energy investment cycle, focusing on renewable projects and infrastructure modernization.
In Serbia, economic opportunities are emerging through new infrastructure projects, including the Arab-Balkan corridor and expanded gas networks to enhance energy security. In Croatia, labor market discussions highlight a growing demand for higher wages, with half of the population citing 2,000 to 2,500 EUR as necessary for a dignified life. Additionally, the judicial sector in Montenegro faces a shortage of judges, with 29 positions currently vacant.
