Bosnia and Herzegovina commemorates 85th anniversary of July 27 Uprising

On July 27, 1941 partisans attacked Drvar and Bosansko Grahovo, sparking an uprising against Ustaše rule. The event has been marked for decades as the Day of the Uprising in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Contemporary discussions note that the holiday is not observed in Croatia or Bosnia today, while Montenegro celebrates a related “13 July” holiday. Slovenia has shifted its commemorations, replacing the former July 22 celebration with an April 27 “Day of Resistance”. The changing holiday calendars reflect ongoing debates over the Yugoslav‑era legacy.
