Germany becomes top foreign investor in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Germany has emerged as the largest foreign direct investor in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2025, contributing 271.6 million KM. This shift follows a significant investment cycle by the German retail giant Lidl, which has invested nearly 700 million KM into the country to prepare for its market entry, including the construction of a major logistics center in Lepenica. Other top investors include Serbia and Austria.

In a separate development, the LiDAR mapping project for Bosnia and Herzegovina is entering its final phase. Funded by the European Union with approximately 1.8 million EUR, the project uses Light Detection and Ranging technology to create high-precision 3D models of the country's terrain. This data will assist in urban planning, disaster prevention, and infrastructure management, with a completion deadline of September 22.

Meanwhile, the Hranjen Tunnel project, a vital component of the Sarajevo–Goražde expressway, faces further delays and requires additional funding. Construction, which began in 2019, has been hampered by unfavorable geological conditions. While current contracts cover the completion of the excavation, new agreements and funds are needed for secondary lining, waterproofing, and road construction.
