Bosnia and Herzegovina destroys 1,639 illegal weapons and components

Authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have destroyed 1,639 pieces of small and light weapons, components, and parts to enhance public safety. The destruction took place at the Pobjeda foundry near Travnik.

The seized items consisted of 883 long and short firearms and 756 individual parts and components. These materials were collected through various police operations or surrendered voluntarily by citizens.

The initiative was organized by the Coordination Committee for the Control of Small and Light Arms in cooperation with local police agencies. The operation was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and UNDP SEESAC, with funding provided by the European Union.

Since 2017, authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have destroyed nearly 15,600 pieces of small and light weapons through this partnership. The European Union is currently supporting three regional projects managed by UNDP SEESAC with nearly 14.5 million euros to reduce weapon surpluses and combat illegal trafficking in Southeast Europe.
