Bosnia and Herzegovina EPP Declaration Signed in Sarajevo

Leaders of Bosnia‑and‑Herzegovina’s parties belonging to the European People’s Party (EPP) signed a joint declaration during the opening day of the “EPP EU‑Enlargement Study Visit & Conference” in Sarajevo. The signatories included SDA president Bakir Izetbegović, HDZ BiH president Dragan Čović, PDP mayor Draško Stanivuković, HDZ 1990 leader Ilija Cvitanović, SDS president Branko Blanuša and EPP president Manfred Weber.

The document reiterates the parties’ commitment to Bosnia‑and‑Herzegovina’s EU accession path, calls for the implementation of rule‑of‑law measures, the enforcement of constitutional court rulings, and reforms of the electoral system that they say have harmed Croat‑Bosniak relations. Čović stressed the need to “relax and stabilise relations between Croats and Bosniaks” and announced plans to push two European‑based laws on the judiciary agenda.

The declaration also highlights concerns about attacks on the country’s constitution and the Dayton peace agreement, urges cooperation with EU institutions, and seeks solutions to border‑crossing difficulties faced by citizens. The signing was presented as a political step toward stronger institutional cohesion and progress toward EU membership.
