Bosnia and Herzegovina economy faces impact from Moneyval grey list
Three months after being placed on the Moneyval grey list due to strategic deficiencies in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, Bosnia and Herzegovina is experiencing significant economic consequences.
International financial institutions have increased oversight, causing a drastic slowdown in cross-border payments. Transactions that previously took 48 hours are now taking between 7 and 10 days due to mandatory additional documentation and verification processes. This delay has increased administrative costs and created liquidity challenges for businesses, particularly exporters.
Economic indicators show a 3 percent drop in foreign direct investment and an approximately 10 percent decrease in cross-border payment traffic. Experts warn that the continued presence on the grey list could impact GDP by as much as 7 to 8 percent. Furthermore, the status poses a reputational risk that may deter new foreign investors and increase financing costs for local companies.
