Bosnia and Herzegovina faces flood recovery delays and heating crisis

Two years after a devastating flood in Jablanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, residents face ongoing challenges regarding justice and reconstruction. The disaster, which claimed 19 lives in Jablanica and seven others in Konjic and Fojnica, has left many survivors living in metal containers as official investigations and indictments remain stalled.

While government officials previously promised rapid recovery, infrastructure remains only partially restored. Although the railway was repaired through donations, many residents still lack permanent housing and face risks from potential new landslides.

In Zenica, citizens face a separate crisis regarding the municipal heating system, Toplana Zenica. With the heating season approaching, residents remain uncertain about costs and billing. The utility provider is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, leading to concerns over rising prices and the reliability of the heating system.
