Bosnia and Herzegovina faces political and labor market challenges

Political and economic issues are central to the current discourse in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Regarding the upcoming 2026 general elections, an analysis suggests that significant political shifts are unlikely. Established nationalist and right-wing parties, including the HDZ, SNSD, and SDA, maintain strong control through stable funding, public enterprises, and loyal voter bases. While civic blocks attempt to form majorities, the political landscape remains dominated by these entrenched structures.

In the economic sector, Adnan Delić, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has addressed critical failures in the labor market. Delić noted that employment records are inaccurate, failing to distinguish between active and passive job seekers. He emphasized that the adoption of the Law on Employment Mediation and Social Security for Unemployed Persons is a prerequisite for further legislative support. Currently, approximately 246,000 people are listed as unemployed in the Federation, even as employers report difficulties in finding workers.
