Economic pressures rise across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia

Residents in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are facing significant economic pressures due to rising costs of living. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, food prices continue to climb, with experts warning that global instability and extreme weather could further increase the cost of staples like wheat, meat, and dairy. In the Republika Srpska region, heating costs are rising sharply, with pellet prices reaching up to 680 KM per ton.

In Croatia, Zadar has been identified as having the most expensive consumer basket for a four-member family, costing nearly 500 euros. While the country sees high tourism intensity, experts note that real tourism income has faced declines due to inflation. To mitigate these pressures, Croatian pensioners are set to receive a pension adjustment of 5.38 percent, which is expected to increase average monthly payments by approximately 38 euros, with the full impact felt in September.

Additionally, the number of families in Zadar receiving municipal subsidies for utility bills has increased, reflecting growing financial vulnerability among the population.
