Bosnia and Herzegovina faces weekend border traffic jams and road work disruptions

Long vehicle queues formed at Bosnia‑Herzegovina’s western exits to Croatia, especially at the Izačić and Velika Kladuša border points. Similar buildups were reported on the Croatian side at the Osoje‑Vinjani Gornji, Gradiška‑Gornji Varoš and Doljani‑Metković crossings, with most other checkpoints seeing waits under 30 minutes.

The Sarajevo Canton (SBŽ) imposed a ban on transporting explosive materials and oversized cargo due to the “Dani Ajvatovice” event, limiting traffic to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes on several magistral roads. Ongoing road works affect the A‑1 highway (Kakanj‑Lašva section closed, detours on Sarajevo‑West‑Lepenica and Bijača‑Počitelj), bridge reconstruction at Izačić‑Bihać, and dilation replacement on the Ribićko bridge. Drivers were advised to travel early, take frequent breaks in high heat, and obey safety regulations.

Authorities also noted temporary traffic diversions on the Zavidovići‑Banovići route for a cycling race, and reduced speed or single‑lane operation on sections like Konjic‑Jablanica. The overall traffic situation remains fluid, with officials urging caution and compliance with all road signs.
