UEFA sanctions Serbia with fines and stadium restrictions
UEFA has imposed heavy disciplinary sanctions on the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) following a series of fan misconduct incidents during Nations League matches. The total financial penalty amounts to 129,500 euros, covering incidents during home matches against Greece and the Netherlands, as well as an away match in Eindhoven.
Specific charges include racist and discriminatory behavior, the use of pyrotechnics, pitch invasions, and the display of inappropriate political messages. One notable incident involved supporters chanting the name of Ratko Mladić, a convicted war criminal.
As a result, Serbia's upcoming home match against Germany on November 13 will be played with limited attendance. While the stadium will not be entirely empty, only children and visiting supporters—expected to number around 2,000—will be permitted in the stands. The FSS is offering fans who already purchased tickets for the Germany match the choice of a full refund or free entry to all Serbian home qualifying matches for Euro 2028. Additionally, the FSS faces a conditional ban on selling tickets for one future away match.
