Bosnia and Herzegovina highway project blocked by Presidency members

The construction of the Corridor 5c highway near Mostar is currently blocked due to a lack of consent from members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović. The dispute centers on two locations that partially touch military property, specifically the edge of the ‘Miralem Jugo’ military complex and the Ortiješ military airport area.

Despite positive assessments from experts at the Ministry of Defense and agreements reached with local residents, the Presidency members have withheld approval, citing concerns over ‘prospective military property.’ This delay is causing significant financial consequences, as JP Autoceste Federacije BiH is reportedly paying high penalties and fees to international creditors due to the project exceeding its deadlines.

If the current impasse continues, the project may require expensive route alterations. The Corridor 5c project has faced long-standing delays caused by political blockades and corruption scandals, hindering what is intended to be a vital driver for the country's economic development.
