Bosnia and Herzegovina holds estimated 200,000 tons of antimony

Bosnia and Herzegovina is estimated to hold approximately 200,000 tons of antimony, a critical metal seeing a massive surge in global demand and price. The price of antimony has risen from roughly $12,000 per ton in 2023 to over $60,000 per ton by early 2026.

This price volatility is largely driven by export controls implemented by China, which produces between 50% and 60% of the world's supply. Together with Russia and Tajikistan, China controls about 80% of the global supply. China's decision to restrict exports, particularly to the United States, has significantly impacted global markets and left European manufacturers with limited reserves.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, foreign companies are already exploring potential deposits. Key areas of interest include the mining regions around Srebrenica and Vareš. Specifically, the company Terra Balcanica has identified silver-antimony mineralization near Srebrenica at the Čumavići and Brežani locations. Antimony is vital for various industries, including flame retardants, military applications like ammunition and night vision, semiconductors, and solar panel production.
