Bosnia and Herzegovina Minister announces veteran benefits start date

Federal Minister for Veterans and Disabled Persons of the Defense and Liberation War, Nedžad Lokmić, has confirmed that the implementation of legal provisions regarding veteran benefits is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. Lokmić stated that the preparation of necessary instructions is currently in its final stages.

However, veteran organizations have expressed skepticism regarding the timeline and administrative readiness. Munib Efendić, President of the Unified Organization of Veterans of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reported that his organization has sent a formal inquiry to the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, the Federal Minister of Finance, and the relevant minister. The inquiry seeks clarification on when municipal and city services will receive instructions and whether the necessary funds for these payments are secured in the federal budget for 2027.

Efendić highlighted concerns regarding the capacity of local services to process data for more than 350,000 potential beneficiaries, noting that some veteran protection services employ only one or two staff members and have yet to receive specific operational instructions.
