Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliament backs court reforms and geographical‑origin protection law

The Constitutional Law Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina approved, in its second reading, a package of legislative proposals. Among them are the Law on the Court and Appellate Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a draft law on protecting geographical origin marks for food products, amendments to the Labour Law, changes to the Citizenship Law, and a bill on managing public assets. The Committee declared the drafts consistent with the Constitution and the country’s legal system.

The BiH Food Safety Agency warned that the proposed geographical‑origin law could undermine existing safeguards for 24 traditional food products, create legal uncertainty for producers, and slow Bosnia’s alignment with EU standards. It urged legislators to consider the potential negative impact on traditional food producers and on the country’s EU integration process.
