Bosnia and Herzegovina parliament passes and blocks key bills

The lower house of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Predstavnički dom) concluded its session, adopting measures aimed at protecting domestic production and introducing temporary customs safeguards on steel imports, while rejecting a constitutional commission opinion on the management of state property. Several proposed laws were not approved, including drafts on the High Court and Prosecutors’ Council, amendments to the Labor Law, and the law on geographic indication protection.

The upper house (Dom naroda) reviewed numerous reports on parliamentary commissions, the Council of Ministers, and the financial audit of state institutions for 2024. Delegates also considered and gave consent to ratify several international agreements, notably the amendment to the financing agreement with the European Investment Bank for flood protection in Republika Srpska and a grant agreement for water and sewage infrastructure projects across multiple municipalities in the entity.

Both houses adopted a proposal to amend the citizenship law and approved an initiative to reduce overtime detentions and improve border procedures at Bosnia and Herzegovina’s international crossings.
