Bosnia and Herzegovina pensioners union to elect new president

The Report Assembly of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Union of Pensioners is scheduled for 10 June in Fojnica. Following the assembly, an Election Assembly will choose the union’s leadership for the next four years. Current president Redžo Mehić (in office since 2018) is ineligible to run again. Candidates for the top post include Haso Halilović, deputy chairman of the union’s Management Board, and three municipal pensioners’ association heads: Ahmed Bešić (Novi Grad), Izet Rizvo (Hadžići) and Zahid Feriz (Ilijaš). The union has previously highlighted that the recent amendment to Article 81 of the pension and disability insurance law, adopted in January, introduced a differentiated calculation that lowered the minimum pension to 666.76 KM, prompting a parliamentary group to request a constitutional review of its constitutionality and retroactive application.

These developments reflect ongoing tensions over pension entitlements and the governance of the pensioners’ union in the Bosnian Federation.
