Croatia Tax Administration intensifies inspections of businesses
The Croatian Tax Administration has significantly increased its oversight of businesses, particularly during the tourist season. Reports indicate a nearly 900 percent increase in work bans due to invoicing irregularities, resulting in the closure of approximately 450 establishments this summer.
Authorities stated that inspections are not random but are driven by advanced IT tools used by the Tax Administration and the Ministry of Finance to gain full insight into business operations. During the summer, 638 inspectors were deployed on the ground, representing a 42 percent increase compared to the previous year. Over 7,000 inspections were conducted, with irregularities identified in nearly 5,000 cases, leading to fines exceeding 6 million euros.
