Bosnia and Herzegovina unlocks 140.5 million euros in EU reform grants

Bosnia and Herzegovina has completed the final ratification step required to access 140.5 million euros in non-repayable EU grant funding. This access is granted through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III) for the 2025–2027 period.

Luigi Soreca, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that these funds are intended to support critical reforms and investments, including judicial reform, the rule of law, anti-corruption efforts, and the improvement of public services. He noted that the funds will provide concrete benefits to citizens, businesses, and public institutions.

However, Soreca issued a warning regarding the country's ability to utilize available European support. He highlighted that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains the only partner in the Western Balkans that has not yet received any funds from the EU Reform and Growth Facility. Due to ongoing internal political blockades and a lack of submitted projects, there is a concrete risk that the country could lose an additional 373 million euros by the end of the year. The European Commission has previously withheld 108 million euros, and any unactivated funds are slated to be redistributed to five other Western Balkan nations demonstrating readiness for reform.
