Bosnia and Herzegovina sees 16% rise in foreign student enrollment

The number of foreign students enrolled in higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina has increased by nearly 16 percent in a single academic year. According to data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 6,875 foreign students were enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year, an increase of 934 students compared to the previous year.

While students from neighboring countries remain the largest group, there is a notable shift in demographics. Citizens from Croatia (1,966), Serbia (1,905), Turkey (1,001), and Montenegro (896) represent the majority. Approximately 72 percent of the total annual increase in foreign students came from Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro.

Simultaneously, there is growing interest from more distant regions, particularly Asia. The number of students from Asian countries rose from 1,413 to 1,618. Notably, the number of students from India saw a significant increase of nearly 44 percent, rising from 323 to 464. The growth is attributed in part to the availability of study programs conducted in English.
