Bosnia and Herzegovina selects ‘Udovac’ for Oscar candidacy

The film ‘Udovac’, directed by Hari Šečić, has been selected as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The story explores themes of loss, loneliness, and life following the death of a spouse.

Director Hari Šečić noted that the film’s themes of grief are universal and transcend local mentalities. Cast members, including actress Emina Minka Muftić and actor Damir Kustura, expressed that the production was completed under modest conditions and that the Oscar candidacy was unexpected. Kustura highlighted the strong performance of actor Izudin Bajrović.

The Association of Film Workers of Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized that while such recognition is significant, the development of domestic cinema requires greater continuity and a wider variety of film genres to achieve consistent international success.
